ALVA Nanoface

To celebrate the arrival of the latest ALVA Nanoface USB Audio Interface here at Millennium Music, we thought that we’d give our customers some insight into the Nanoface philosophy along with the company itself.

ALVA have been creating ‘complement’ products for their prestigious partners at RME for some time now, including breakout cables, a ‘Loopback’ tool for the RME ADI-6432 and a wide variety of reasonably priced accessories.

The Nanoface USB Audio Interface exemplifies ALVA’s passion for delivering great sound in an extremely eye-catching design, which as many of you can probably see is suspiciously similar to RME’s own Babyface 22ch USB Audio Interface.  Perfect for a wide variety of environments, including home, mobile and live, the ALVA Nanoface USB Audio Interface provides a wide selection of analogue and digital I/O connections and even sports 1 MIDI in and 2 MIDI out.

Similar to the RME Babyface, the ALVA Nanoface USB Audio Interface comes equipped with high-quality converters that easily compete with those found in interfaces twice the price.  Whilst it doesn’t come with software option dialogues or an integrated mixer, it does provide the vital ingredient of high-speed drivers that perform with minimal drop-outs and low latency.  This, along with low-noise Hi-Z and microphone preamps, ensures that users can get the most out of their recordings without fear of losing the vital detail that gives your performance an edge.

Designed from the ground-up for those that are looking for a simple, intuitive and incredibly stylish addition for their audio rig, the ALVA Nanoface USB Audio Interface is certainly one to watch out for.

Don’t miss out on yours and order now from Millennium Music.

You’d have to be living under a rock to not notice the impact Apple’s iPad tablet computer has had on day-to-day life, and I’m sure that most music technology enthusiasts have noticed that audio interface manufactures world-wide are embracing the iPad’s liberating functionality to bring new and exciting audio products to the market that promise to revolutionize the way we create music.

We here at Millennium Music pride ourselves on being at the forefront of the music technology world (since 1992 I might add) and thought we’d give our customers a roundup of the latest and greatest iPad audio interfaces available.  To make for easy reading, Part 1 of this blog will focus more on general iPad interfaces whilst Part 2 will concentrate on those dedicated for guitarist and bassists.

Tascam iXZ

Our first encounter brings us to the simple and incredibly affordable Tascam iXZ iOS Mic/Instrument Interface.  This small and extremely compact audio interface allows you to turn you iOS (iPod, iPhone and iPad) device into a portable practice, songwriting or live recording rig and comes equipped with a switchable mic/line/instrument input to suit a variety of needs.  The XLR microphone input found on the Tascam iXZ iOS Mic/Instrument Interface can even supply Phantom Power for those of us who wish to use our high-quality condenser microphones and also possesses a 1/8” headphone output for direct monitoring from your iOS device.

Our next item, the Lexicon Omega Desktop Recording Studio, is something many of us in the music tech world already know and love thanks to its high-quality converters and rich manufacturing pedigree.  However, whilst it was originally marketed as an audio interface for computers, the geniuses at Lexicon have taken full advantage of Apple’s USB Camera Connection Kit and have ensured that the Lexicon Omega Desktop Recording Studio is completely compatible with the latest generation of iPads.  With this new lease of life users are now able to record up to four channels of 24-bit / 44.1 kHz directly to their iPads via a wide variety of input connections and without the disadvantage of going through the iPad’s input jack connection.  As an added bonus, it even supports MIDI input to your favourite iPad music app.

sonodyne millennium music nottingham

If you mention the word “Sonodyne” to most western gear-heads then chances are you’ll simply get a blank stare in response.  However, for those ‘in the know’ Sonodyne represents over 40 years of audio excellence and a corner stone of the Asian entertainment industry.  Being the brainchild of Ashoke Mukherjee, one India’s foremost electrical engineers, Sonodyne have gone from strength-to-strength since its genesis in the late 60s with their rigorous development of audiophile hi-fi amplifiers and speakers, but in recent times Sonodyne have used their extensive R&D capabilities to offer the pro-audio world a monitoring solution that hits the spot every time.

Consisting of three models, being the Sonodyne SM200AK, Sonodyne SM100AK and Sonodyne SM50AK, the Sonodyne SM Series of active studio monitors are designed from the ground up to offer untainted reproduction and utilize high-grade components throughout to ensure uncompromised performance is achieved time and time again.

Each of the Sonodyne SM Series are fashioned within a single-piece aluminium die cast cabinet to help extenuate high frequencies and are internally coated with a specially formulated deadening compound to prevent ringing.  The cosmetically striking cabinet design found on each of these active monitors employ the use of non-parallel sides to reduce the occurrences of standing waves, along with rounded corners and recessed controls to ensure acoustic clarity is retained with minimized edge diffraction.

These sonically balanced two-way systems are loaded with 5.25”, 6.5” and 8” Kevlar woofers, depending on which model you buy, that produce smooth lows with tight transients along with a transparent mid-range response.  Complimented with a 26mm silk dome tweeters on the Sonodyne SM50AK and Sonodyne SM100AK, as well as a 1” metal dome on the Sonodyne SM200AK, the Sonodyne SM Series not only offers a clean and articulate high-end but also a wide sweet spot for greater mobility around the sound stage and precise stereo imaging that’ll ensure you hear everything your sound has to offer.

With prices starting at just £389.00, these active monitors offer premium quality at a not-so-premium price when compared to other high-end systems of this caliber.  If you’re looking for a monitoring system that delivers natural and reliable results across a wide range of applications then the Sonodyne SM Series could be just what you need.

Dr Amar G. Bose and his team have been on the quest for better sound through research since 1964 and have developed major technological innovations that have made them a household name world-wide.  With a deep seeded relationship with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Bose have provided high-quality audio solutions for the likes of NASA and the Sistine Chapel whilst also offering musicians a chance to hear their music the way it was meant to be heard.  The Bose L1 Portable PA Systems are no exception.

The critically acclaimed Bose L1 Portable PA Systems are the first choice for many performers of all varieties due to their ultra-portable design and uncompromised tonal reproduction.  Consisting of three models, Bose L1 Compact, Bose L1 Model 1 and the Bose L1 Model 2, there is a supreme-quality PA solution for every application.  Whether you’re a DJ, perform in a band or even if you’re a solo artist, the Bose L1 Portable PA Systems can accommodate your every need in delivering transparent and highly detailed music to small-to-large audiences.

Being line array in nature, the Bose L1 Portable PA Systems offer a completely different approach to live sound that eliminates the majority of issues one would normally find on a traditional PA system.  The Bose L1 Model 1 and Bose L1 Model 2 contain a column of tightly spaced drivers designed to project sound waves forward and nearly 180 degrees on the horizontal plane whilst also keeping vertical projections to a minimum.  This clever design helps to reduce elusive room reverberation that impacts on the clarity of your sound and also ensures that audio is delivered to your audience evenly.

Along with this, when used in conjunction with the Bose T1 ToneMatch Audio Engine, which is compatible with all Bose L1 Portable PA Systems, your sound is instantly optimized for delivery thanks to a wide range of presets developed in partnership with leading manufactures including Audix and Taylor.  Containing a variety of studio-grade effects, such as reverbs and delays, along with Bose’s own proprietary zEQ which differs from the generic tone controls found on most mixers as it is designed to bring the best out of particular instruments, the Bose T1 ToneMatch Audio Engine is more than just a multi-channel digital mixer and makes a performer’s task of setting up for a show incredibly easy and efficient, leaving you with more time to concentrate on the performance and less time fiddling with knobs.

Regardless of the genre or the instrumentation, the Bose L1 Portable PA Systems are ideal for anyone wanting ultimate portability with uncompromised quality.

We have all three systems on demo here at Millennium Music so come on down for a listen, you won’t be disappointed.
