sonodyne millennium music nottingham

If you mention the word “Sonodyne” to most western gear-heads then chances are you’ll simply get a blank stare in response.  However, for those ‘in the know’ Sonodyne represents over 40 years of audio excellence and a corner stone of the Asian entertainment industry.  Being the brainchild of Ashoke Mukherjee, one India’s foremost electrical engineers, Sonodyne have gone from strength-to-strength since its genesis in the late 60s with their rigorous development of audiophile hi-fi amplifiers and speakers, but in recent times Sonodyne have used their extensive R&D capabilities to offer the pro-audio world a monitoring solution that hits the spot every time.

Consisting of three models, being the Sonodyne SM200AK, Sonodyne SM100AK and Sonodyne SM50AK, the Sonodyne SM Series of active studio monitors are designed from the ground up to offer untainted reproduction and utilize high-grade components throughout to ensure uncompromised performance is achieved time and time again.

Each of the Sonodyne SM Series are fashioned within a single-piece aluminium die cast cabinet to help extenuate high frequencies and are internally coated with a specially formulated deadening compound to prevent ringing.  The cosmetically striking cabinet design found on each of these active monitors employ the use of non-parallel sides to reduce the occurrences of standing waves, along with rounded corners and recessed controls to ensure acoustic clarity is retained with minimized edge diffraction.

These sonically balanced two-way systems are loaded with 5.25”, 6.5” and 8” Kevlar woofers, depending on which model you buy, that produce smooth lows with tight transients along with a transparent mid-range response.  Complimented with a 26mm silk dome tweeters on the Sonodyne SM50AK and Sonodyne SM100AK, as well as a 1” metal dome on the Sonodyne SM200AK, the Sonodyne SM Series not only offers a clean and articulate high-end but also a wide sweet spot for greater mobility around the sound stage and precise stereo imaging that’ll ensure you hear everything your sound has to offer.

With prices starting at just £389.00, these active monitors offer premium quality at a not-so-premium price when compared to other high-end systems of this caliber.  If you’re looking for a monitoring system that delivers natural and reliable results across a wide range of applications then the Sonodyne SM Series could be just what you need.

Originally designers of hi end hifi speakers in India - Sonodyne soon found favour  in the emerging media industry with their SM50AK small footprint studio monitor. A need for a compact flat response,  monitor had been growing, (mainly fuelled by bollywood movies and the growing size of commercial radio in India). The Sonodyne SM50AK quickly became the favourite of many top audio professionals in both pre and post recording spheres of activity.

The Sonodyne SM50AK is praised for its incredibly clear mid-range, open top end and tight and detailed bass response. The SM50AK are magnetically shielded and so are well suited for small DAW-based recording studio too.

Further up the scale, if you are looking to fulfill the small studio all-in-one monitor. You wont find anything better for less than £1200 than the Sonodyne SM100AK. The bass is thumping but not over-bearing - the tweeters are precise and accurate. But the main thing about the Sonodyne SM100 is the mid-range. It is pin-sharp accurate, and the SM100 have an excellent stereo image and wide sweet spot.

Having tested these monitors against two other well-known brands in this price bracket, we were convinced that the SM100 definitely had a strong role to play in the future of project studio monitoring!

We found them accurate, not particularly flattering, which is good! They will make you work hard to achieve the best mix you can, but you will know when youve done it as these monitors tell no lies!

The speaker enclosure is a solid chunk of aluminium which is both rock-solid but pleasantly not too heavy to carry! This must help to make the imaging so stable and accurate!

To have a closer look and a listen to Sonodyne Monitors call 0115 985 9500 today and arrange a demo at Millennium Music Nottingham, you'll be very impressed.

Our new Studio Monitor demo room is back up and running after some recent refurbishment work. We have added extra acoustic treament on the walls and the ceiling to make the room much less reflective so that you can really hear the true difference between studio monitors you want to audition. Studio Monitors on demo at the moment include Quested S7, KRK VXT4, KRK VXT6, KRK VXT8, Adam A3x, Adam A5x, Adam A7x, Focal BE 6, PMC TB2 S+, Yamaha HS50m, Yamaha HS8m and  Avantone Mixcubes.

Your choice of Studio Monitors will play a great part in the way you mix and so contribute to the overall sould of recordings produced at your studio. So best get it right with the budget available.Don't choose studio monitors because a track you like "sounds good" on them, choose them for their clarity and detail, so that when you make a change to the eq settings or pan settings on a particular instrument or track, you can actually hear the difference it's making and what effect it is having on the rest of the mix.

If you want to talk about studio monitors them give our hi tech specialist a call and arrange to come down and actually hear the differences. It's an importatant choice so why not let us help!

Monitor speakers are (I'd say) the most important item in your studio barr yourself and your ears, picture it.........

You have a Neumann U87, going into a TL Audio M4 32 Mixer, through your Lynx Aurora 16 interface into Cubase 5, and then out again via the Lynx into a pair of Hi-fi or low end Monitor Speakers......

Whilst tracking, or mixing, you can't precisely hear how all that wonderful gear is effecting your audio, so your judgement will be impaired by inaccurate monitoring, and you will ultimately create a mix that doesn't translate well onto other systems.

I know this is an extreme example, but it puts across my point i.e. there is no point having an incredible signal path if you can't precisely hear how all that wonderful gear is effecting your audio.

On the other extreme, with a low quality signal path and a high quality monitoring system, at least you can accuratly notice and fix the flaws in the recorded audio, making for an ultimately better and more transferable mix.

So, now we've got the point across, onto the monitor speakers themselves. Here at Millennium we have a wide range of monitor speakers available from the likes of PMC, KRK, Tannoy, Adam etc.. and what we encourage you to do is to come in-store and speak to one of the experienced members of our hi-tech department, and not only will they answer any queries you may have, but they can show you the monitors and let you have a listen for yourself. Be it with your own reference material or anything off our music packed PC, you can really make that judgement call on what monitors are right for you in our dedicated listening environment.

For any information on studio monitor speakers, our whereabouts, or how we can help you to create an accurate listening environment, call Millennium Music's hi-tech department on 08455557070.

The Professional Monitor Company, or PMC as they are known to us, have been hand-building high quality studio monitors in thier UK factory for some years now, which have taken their rightful place in some of the best recording, post production and broadcast studios in the world. Their use on such a range of high quality films and productions led them to be awarded with an Emmy, incredibly rare for a company of this type, for the outstanding contribution that they have made to the world of professional audio.

Millennium Music  were invited to visit the PMC factory in Luton to see how these incredible monitors are constructed, an offer we couldn't refuse.

All PMC monitor speakers are hand built in house, with a specialist carrying out their part in the process and passing it along to the next until they are finished. EVERY SINGLE monitor is then rigorously tested in their dedicated listening environment, with their dedicated listening team testing for frequency response, stereo imaging etc... making sure every speaker lives up to PMCs incredible reputation.

The listening room was a particular highlight, with their full range of speakers available to test out, from their passive DB1S+, powered by the incredible Bryston amps, to their active, flagship unit, the BB5A, which provided an unsurpassed aural experience.

At Millennium, we know when to take notice and the PMC monitors have really struck a chord with us, as we are sure they will with you, so we are bringing in a few models for you to demo in our specially designed listening environment here in Nottingham.

For more information on the incredible PMC monitors, or on our visit to their factory, give Millennium Music's High Tech department a call on 08455557070
