The SE2200a is truly one of the best sounding mics in its class. It’s hard to walk into any recording studio these days without seeing at least one of the 2200a’s in the arsenal. With its wide frequency range and open sounding high end it breaths magic into any vocal recording and is versatile enough be used in a variety of different applications.

Not only is the SE2200a a favourite amongst the many engineers and musicians we have in to the store (not to mention our staff!) but it has also received multiple awards for the quality of this mic, including MusicTech, FutureMusic, MIA & Future Publishing.

Here are just a few things they had to say about the SE2200a:-

Future Music “The SE2200a performs extremely well and has sacks-full of character. There are products out there that compete (plenty in fact), but the SE2200a is not bettered by any cheaper products and performs better than many with higher price tags. A resounding winner.”

MTM “All in all, the SE2200-A sets a new standard for sound quality and style in this price range and is certainly destined to become a popular and respected addition to the SE’s range of microphones.”

Mixdown “I couldn’t believe it either but this mic stacked up against every other microphone I A/B’d it against including ones that retail for over $2000!

So whether you are a bedroom musician looking for that first microphone or a seasoned engineer still without a SE2200a, pop down to the store and grab one today!

Based on the same soundset as the Motif XS. The new yamaha MOX has 1270 sounds ranging from the traditional high quality piano sounds that Yamaha are famous for as well as a host of many others including drums, synth, orchestral etc.

One of the main things we have ben impressed by is the portability of both the Motif MOX 6 and 8. The MOX 6 weighs in at just 7 kg which considering the Motif XF6 is 15 kg, makes this one lightweight synth. As well as that the Yamaha MOX 8 (the fully weighted 88 key version bigger brother of the MOX 6) is only 14.8kg!

Both the Yamaha MOX 6 & 8 feature 6,720 arpeggiator patterns, Built-in 4-in 2-out USB Audio/MIDI interface, XA (Expanded Articulation) tone generation system, Performance Creator for quick setting of Splits, Layers, and Drum Parts and are both bundled with Cubase AI.

For a reduced price Motif that is half the weight and has all the great sounds as the original, look no further than the Yamaha MOX. Come down and try one out in store today!

The drum kit, one of the most complicated and daunting recording tasks presented to an engineer, it's sound can make or break a recording, a powerful, full drum sound can drive a song along, and, complemented by a good bass sound, be a great foundation on which to build.

A wide range of drum micing kits have been brought together by companies such as AKG, Samson, Shure, Superlux, Audio Technica etc. that make this daunting task much easier, creating consistency in drum tones throughout your micing, making the individual elements sit together better in a mix. Kits can range from tom/snare/kick ensembles, to full kits inclusive of Overhead microphones, Hi-hat microphones and extra mics for those with an extended percussive palates.

First up is the all encompassing Wharfedale KMD7 7 Piece Drum Mic Set, which features 4 KMD5 Dynamic microphones ideal for toms and the snare drum, a KM4 dynamic microphone with an exceptional low end response and high spl tolerance, both qualities perfect for kick drum micing. The set is completed by a pair of KM3s, small diaphragm condensers that are ideal for overheads or other instruments that require a detailed transient response. This package is housed is a durable carry case, keeping everything neat and tidy and making it ideal for travelling sound engineers and recording studios alike.

Next up in both quality and price is the AKG Rhythm Pack, that, just like the Wharfedale package includes everything you need to mic up a full drum kit, albeit a 4 piece kit instead of 5. A sure fire benefit of this kit is the industry standard AKG D112 kick drum mic, used by engineers all around the world session after session. Overhead duties are dealt with by their C430 SDCs and the toms and snare are looked after by their rugged and transient rich D 40 dynamic microphones. Overall this is a solid microphone kit that holds its own against most others available on the market.

The Shure DMK57 set provides top quality microphones for the kick drum and toms/snare, allowing you to add your own carefully selected overheads to complete your drum micing ensemble. Taking care of the kick drum is the Shure Beta 52 microphone, that is also favoured by many in the recording community for bass guitar cabs. 3 of the most versatile microphones around are also included, the Shure SM57, along with 3 A56D drum mounting systems allowing for quick and easy set-up. This set, while it doesn't contain overheads, offers a solid foundation to add your own favourites to.

As mentioned with all of the kits above, these mics don't have to be specifically used for drums, meaning each pack provides a wealth of microphones to extend your studio's arsenal, making you much more prepared for the variety that the modern musical world can throw at you, at a much reduced priced compared with purchasing them separately.

For more information on these drum packs or others we have available, give Millennium Music a call on 08455557070 or check out our website.

Universal Audio's UAD Plug-in platform has been host to some of the most desirable plug-ins in the past few years, from the award winning Studer A800 Tape Emulator to EMT Plates and beyond, great care is taken with each plug-in to ensure the processing applied is of the utmost quality and offers incredible realism when compared to its hardware counterpart.

Their catalogue is about to expand, most importantly with the introduction of the Lexicon 224 Digital Reverb Plug-in, an accurate emulation of the 1978 Hardware Digital Reverb that shaped the sound of the 80's with its lush reverb tail. Now with UA's acclaimed modeling expertise, the Lexicon 224 plug-in can be utilised in the box , with all eight reverb programs available in original 224 firmware version 4.4, along with every tunable parameter and unique fader-style controls making sonic exploration quick and easy.UA have taken this project to its limits, emulating the original unit's input transformers and early AD/DA converters, the entire signal path has been emulated down to the very finest detail.

Presets are included from famous Lexicon 224 users, including Chuck Zwicky (Prince, Jeff Beck), Eli Janney (Jet, Ryan Adams), David Isaac (Eric Clapton, Luther Vandross), E.T. Thorngren (Talking Heads, Bob Marley), and Kevin Killen (U2, Peter Gabriel).

The 2nd new plug-in to add to the fold is the The Brainworx bx_digital V2 EQ,  an award-winning mastering EQ, named  the "Gear of the Decade" by FutureMusic magazine. Three modes, M/S Mastering, M/S Recording, and L/R Stereo are included, with a unique ''SixPack" Master Section, 11-band EQ with Shifter EQs to 22kHz, and built-in M/S De-Esser, Dynamic EQ as well as extensive metering options.

For mixing applications the bx_digital V2 Mono plug-in has been included, providing the same Mastering EQ-quality sound for single channels or busses.  The ULTIMATE software EQ, now available on UAD

The 3rd new addition to the fine UAD range is the SPL Vitalizer MK2-T, an authentic emulation of the popular tube-based Vitalizer hardware unit, which is found in the studios of top mixing and post-production engineers around the world.

The SPL Vitalizer MK2-T helps achieve greater perceived loudness and clarity without unnatural artifacts usually associated with the process. Independent Bass and Mid-Hi processing works in both the time and the frequency domains,  effectively unmasking overlapping sounds.  For both fixing and enhancing EQ processing, the Vitalizer MK2-T is a mixing must-have and now available on the UAD platform.

With the 5.9 Update of the UAD format, it is now open to third party developers, so expect much more to be available your cards in the coming months.

For more information on any of the above plug-ins or the UAD format, give Millennium Music a call on 08455557070

Not happy with setting the Musikmesse alight with just the MonoTribe, Korg have whipped out a second miniature musical nugget in the form of the Korg WaveDrum Mini, a fun and innovative percussion synthesiser that retains some of the capabilities of its older cousin the WaveDrum, and adds some of its own unique tricks that are set to become a smash with the percussionists in us all.

A key selection of 100 sounds that range from acoustic to synthetic percussion along with 100 rhythm patterns and 10 preset audio effects (delay, chorus and reverb, filters, pitch-shifters and distortion etc.) makes the WaveDrum Mini a highly versatile beast. Korg, being the innovative fellows that they are have also included a sensory clip that can be attached to any object, turning it into a playable percussion instrument.

The battery powered WaveDrum Mini features a built in speaker, allowing you to play it anywhere without the need for additional amplification, and a headphone output allows for silent practice where required.

You can mix, and overlay the onboard samples to create rich percussive textures, and with the onboard looper you can create your own expressive percussion tracks with ease.

For more information on the Korg WaveDrum Mini give our Hi-Tech Department a call on 08455557070 or just pop into the Millennium Music Store.

Roland as always have pushed the boat out with a wide range of new products at this years Musikmesse, from audio interfaces to synthesisers and beyond. The highlight of all their offerings this year has to be the Roland Jupiter 80, a supposed successor to the incredible Roland Jupiter 8 that can be heard on many classic 80's recordings, swapping the Jupiter 8's analogue electronics with a wide range of analogue modelling and Roland's SuperNatural sound engine, which can also be found on a range of their other flagship keyboards and workstations.

The Roland Jupiter 80 borrows the aesthetics of the original Jupiter 8, adding a flourish of colour to what can sometimes be a plain canvas. The colour carries on through to a full colour touch screen, making preset choice and parameter navigation easier than ever. However, you needn't reach into the touchscreen menu too much, the wide range of hands on (or hands off in the case of the D-Beam controller) controls is incredible, with four sliders, four rotary controls and pitch bend/modulation joystick and the aforementioned D-Beam. The faders and knobs can be assigned to parameters of your choice, allowing for epic filter sweeps, hands on VCA control and anything else that your performance requires.

The SuperNatural sound engine takes the Roland Jupiter 80 beyond the tag of simply a synthesiser, offering incredibly realistic sound sets of acoustic instruments from pianos, lush strings, brass and beyond, making it ideal for both studio productions and live performances.

The Roland Jupiter 80 is sure to be seen on stages all across the world pretty soon, with both visual aesthetics and sonic capabilities taken care of it ticks all the boxes of a future classic. Keep your eyes peeled for more information or give the Millennium Music Hi-Tech department a call on 08455557070.

The Korg MonoTribe, a fully analogue synthesizer/sequencer that goes way beyond the capabilities of its younger brother the Monotron.

The Korg MonoTribe Analogue Ribbon Synthesiser/Sequencer carries on from where the Monotron left off, still with the MS-20 filter network but with a plethora of more analogue control and synthesis parameters. The Korg Electribe style sequencer allows for compositions to be created, the parameters can be controlled in real time allowing your sequence to evolve with the track. As with the Monotron, an external input allows you to filter external audio signals, making it not only ideal for sound creation, but for manipulation too. Keep an eye out for more information or give Millennium Music a call on 08455557070.
